Drying Off Newborns

I find that newspapers work great for cleaning off newborns. They can then be composted, and unlike towels, there is no cleaning or further waste of resources.

During really cold weather, we occasionally use a hair dryer to fluff up the kids quickly, after they have been "pre-dried" with the newspapers.
They then go under a heat lamp for an hour or so, and once they are thoroughly dry, heat is removed. Sometimes we use old T-shirts or socks with toes removed, to cover chilled or otherwise compromised kids. It's important to also dry Nubian ears very carefully and thoroughly, to help avoid folded ears.
